Friday 2/26-Monday 3/1 - When it comes to shopping, higher income shoppers may be bigger bargain hunters than lower-income consumers. New research by Ohio State University Business Professor Robert Leone shows that higher-income consumers are more likely to take advantage of bargain prices on certain items by stocking up -- and buying less of these goods when prices rise. Low-income consumers have less cash available to take advantage of discounts. Leone says high income people have the cash available to buy more when prices are low or buy a more expensive brand that is on sale. (rescheduled from 2/19)
Monday 3/1-Wednesday 3/3 - Osteoporosis is a pediatric condition with geriatric consequences, and medical professionals should treat it as such. Jasminka Ilich, a researcher at Ohio State’s Bone and Mineral Metabolism Laboratory says when we don’t take care of bones as they grow, and especially during the adolescent growth spurt, we increase the risk for developing osteoporosis later in life. She says calcium intake should be increased to compensate for the loss. She also says preventive strategies that promote adequate calcium intake and other healthy habits should be introduced early in life.
Wednesday 3/3-Friday 3/5 - How would you rate your overall health today? If you think you’re fairly healthy, chances are you’ll feel good seven years from now. That’s one finding of a study by Ohio State University Psychology Professor Charles Emery. In a long term study of psychological well-being and health, he finds that the best predictor of physiological well-being is self-rated health.
