OHIO STATE DEAN SELECTED AS PROVOST AT NORTH CAROLINA STATE

COLUMBUS -- Kermit Hall, dean of the College of Humanities and executive dean of the Colleges of the Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University, has been selected to be the next chief academic officer at North Carolina State University. NCSU announced today (3/4) that Hall will be recommended to its boards for approval as provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs.

Hall, 54, who holds faculty appointments in history and law, has been at Ohio State since 1994.

Ohio State President William E. Kirwan said: “Ohio State has been blessed to have Kermit Hall’s committed leadership. The new World Media Center is but one example of his vision. Beyond humanities, he has provided significant direction for undergraduate education in Arts and Sciences. He is dedicated to the highest standards of quality. He is, of course, a first-rate scholar, and his national role with the Kennedy assassination papers reinforces the high regard in which he is held. I am enormously pleased at his opportunity, but saddened to lose him as a colleague at Ohio State.”

Ohio State Executive Vice President and Provost Ed Ray said: “It was clear from the time we first interviewed Dr. Hall for the position of dean of the College of Humanities that he was a person of broad talent, energy, and accomplishment and that he had tremendous potential to move high up the academic ladder. He has made great contributions to the college and the university. While we are sorry to lose Kermit we are genuinely happy for him. Our colleagues at North Carolina State are getting a wonderful provost.”
