CAMPUS TORNADO SIRENS WILL BE TESTED WEDNESDAY MORNING

COLUMBUS -- Despite the snowstorm, there will be a test of tornado sirens Wednesday morning (3/10) throughout Franklin County, including those on and around the campus area. The test marks Tornado Safety Day and Tornado Safety Week, and is a reminder that spring is a time for increased tornado safety awareness.

At 9:50 a.m., Franklin County Emergency Management officials will conduct a test of the emergency siren warning system. Sirens should be clearly heard at all parts of the campus.

Please become familiar with the warning siren. If a tornado is seen within Franklin County or is imminent, authorities issue a tornado warning and the sirens sound. The sirens blare for three minutes, and then a period of seven minutes follows in which voice announcements are made. The sequence is repeated for as long as the danger exists.

University students, faculty and staff have been notified about the test via e-mail.
