WEXNER CENTER OFFERS FULL SLATE FOR APRIL--The Wexner Center, 1871 N. High St., offers many outstanding performances and exhibits during April. Among them:
--A TRIBUTE TO FRENCH FILMMAKER ROBERT BRESSON--April 1-24. At 97, Robert Bresson is considered one of the most important living film directors by critics and filmmakers alike. In a career spanning five decades, Bresson made 13 films that reveal unparalleled stylistic elegance and reserve. The Wexner Center offers all 13 films in a month-long tribute with The Bresson Project, part of the Wexner Center's ongoing Cinematheque series. Films are April 1, 2, 10, 15, 17, 22 and 24; all begin at 7 p.m. in the Film/Video Theatre.
--MARK MORRIS DANCE GROUP AND YO-YO MA--April 3. In a rare joint appearance, famed cellist Yo-Yo Ma and the Mark Morris Dance Group perform Saturday, April 3 at 8 p.m. in the Wexner Center's Mershon Auditorium. Columbus is one of only five cities—and the only city in the Midwest—to host this special collaboration. Morris was the recipient of the Wexner Center’s 1996–97 Residency Award in performing arts; that connection enabled the Wexner Center to bring this program to Columbus.
--JAZZ DIVA CASSANDRA WILSON SALUTES MILES DAVIS--April 6. Jazz singer Cassandra Wilson salutes jazz icon Miles Davis in Mershon Auditorium at 8 p.m. April 6. Wilson made her Columbus debut at the Wexner Center in 1997, giving a stunning performance in Wynton Marsalis’ Blood on the Fields. She now returns with her own band for this personal homage, Traveling Miles: Music from Miles Davis, covering the songs that Davis made famous.

WINDOW DISPLAY ART ON EXHIBIT--April 8-Sept. 4. The Art of Selling: A History of Visual Merchandising is the new exhibition opening April 8 in the Geraldine Schottenstein Wing of the Campbell Hall, 1787 Neil Ave. The exhibit is a historical exploration of visual display artists, techniques and artifacts associated with the display of store merchandise from the 1890s to the 1990s. It will feature photographs of the “art and artists” who have created notable window displays over the years, such as Salvador Dali and Andy Warhol; floor sets and window displays exploring different historical time periods and themes; and a variety of mannequins illustrating changing fashion silhouettes and artistic props and fixtures. In conjunction with this exhibition, Simon Doonan, creative director of Barney’s, New York City, will lecture on present-day visual merchandising and autograph copies of his book, Confessions of a Window Dresser, at 2 p.m. April 9 at the Wexner Center.

STUDENTS COMPETE IN BRIDGE-BUILDING CONTEST--April 9-10. Not only do civil engineering students have to make it strong--they have to build it quickly at the Ohio Valley Regional Steel Bridge-Building Competition, April 9-10 at the University of Kentucky (Lexington). About a dozen students in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Geodetic Science have been working on the 1:10 scale model steel bridge since September. At the competition, they’ll try to assemble the structure in the least time possible. It will be tested for stiffness, weight, aesthetics, efficiency, economy and construction speed.
