UNDERGRADUATE JACLYN NOWAKOWSKI APPOINTED TO BOARD OF TRUSTEES
COLUMBUS -- Jaclyn Nowakowski, the newest student member of The Ohio State University Board of Trustees, has been serving the university and the surrounding community in several capacities since starting her college career in 1997.
Nowakowski, 20, of BROADVIEW HEIGHTS, is a member of the Undergraduate Student Government, chairperson of Make a Difference Day 1999, and president of Mirrors Sophomore Class Honorary.
Gov. Bob Taft recently announced Nowakowski's appointment to a two-year term on the board, ending May 13, 2001. She replaces Soraya Rofagha, whose term expired May 13. Student members of university boards serve for two years and have no voting power or admittance to executive sessions, but they are encouraged to voice their opinions.
Nowakowski, a junior psychology major, said she sought the trustee appointment because it is an opportunity to continue to serve the university.
"Every day I'm learning about the wonderful things I'm going to be able to do as a member of the board," she said. "It's going to be a phenomenal two years."
Nowakowski is a member of Chimes Junior Class Honorary and a representative to the Association of Ohio State Class Honoraries. She also has undergone a variety of leadership activities, including serving as a student delegate at the annual convention for the National Association for Campus Activities and co- chairing a recent town meeting to discuss alcohol issues on campus.
