Friday 6/11-Monday 6/14 - For the first time since 1918, Ohio State will hold spring commencement ceremonies on the Oval. About 4,700 graduates will receive degrees during the ceremony, which begins at 9:30 a.m. on Friday (6/11). The commencement speaker is Dumisa Ntsebeza, a human rights lawyer and member of South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The ceremony is relocated during the renovation of Ohio Stadium.
Monday 6/14-Wednesday 6/1 - Contrary to popular belief, consumers may benefit when manufacturers are allowed to set minimum retail prices for their products. Ohio State University Economics Professor James Peck looked at a practice known as retail price maintenance (RPM). Some consumer groups say that setting minimum prices is anti-competitive and means consumers will pay more. But Peck says under RPM, consumers may pay less for goods that are in high demand--like popular holiday toys.
Wednesday 6/16-Friday 6/18 - As you load the car up for vacation, be careful about how you secure luggage. Bungee cords, elastic devices with hooks that are used to fasten equipment, can cause serious damage to the eye if not used carefully. Louis Chorich, a professor of ophthalmology at Ohio State, says the cords can snap back while being secured or removed and hit the eye. He says while patients seen at Ohio State for bungee cord injuries recovered most of their vision, they remain at higher risk for developing glaucoma.
