SPECIAL NOTE: While I’m on vacation, the U.S. Supreme Court is due to make an important ruling on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Info Line will carry sound from an Ohio State University Law Professor who is an expert on the ADA. As a test, the audio will also be available over the Internet, at www.ohio-state.edu/units/ucomm/infoline/realaudio/law.ram
Friday 6/25-Tuesday 7/6 - The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to announce a decision by July 1 on three cases that involve how the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) applies to workers. The cases ask the court to decide whether workers with minor and correctable problems--nearsightedness and high blood pressure--are protected under the ADA. Ruth Colker, a professor of law at Ohio State University, is an expert on the ADA and how those cases fare in court. She says usually, employers win. Colker expects the Supreme Court to conclude that maybe the lower courts have used too narrow of a definition of disability in those decisions.
