Beverly Peterson, a video artist and Kiplinger Fellow at The Ohio State University, recently interviewed Benjamin Nathaniel Smith for a documentary she is producing about anti-racist action in Columbus and the Midwest, and young people involved in the “white pride” movement. Smith killed himself Sunday while being chased by police in connection with a series of racially motivated drive-by shootings in which two people were killed and several were injured.
Peterson spoke with Smith several times, and spent a day with him in mid-June to conduct an interview and shoot footage of his leafleting activities. A portion of the interview was aired today (7/7) on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
Peterson, who is teaching a broadcast course this summer at Ohio State, is available for interviews in connection with her documentary project and her discussions with Smith. She may be reached in her office in the School of Journalism and Communication, (614) 292-9054, or on her cell phone, (614) 975-9297.
