BLOOD DONORS ASKED TO GIVE A 'SCHOTT AT LIFE'
COLUMBUS -- The home of The Ohio State University NCAA Final Four men's basketball team will be the site of the largest blood drive in central Ohio, as the Schott at Life American Red Cross Blood Drive is held Monday, Aug. 16, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. at the Jerome Schottenstein Center.
Ohio State President William Kirwan, along with student athletes and other personalities, will visit and donate throughout the day. President Kirwan is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Blood supplies are often at their lowest during the summer months because of increased traffic accidents and low blood donor turnout, according to Red Cross spokesperson Bethany Dohnal. 'Every blood donation can help save up to three lives. Eligible donors should make an appointment to give someone a Schott at life,' she says.
Eligible donors can call 688-8556 to schedule an appointment. Following registration, donors answer simple medical history questions and receive a mini-physical. The actual donation takes eight to 10 minutes. Afterwards donors enjoy refreshments in the canteen area. Donors should bring identification showing their social security number. Blood donors may give every 56 days.
Each donor will receive free sunglasses and a Rita's Italian Ice and will be eligible for hourly drawings.
