ROADS SCHOLARS TO VISIT NORTHEAST OHIO SEPT. 14-15
COLUMBUS -- Ohio State University faculty will hit the roads of northeast Ohio this September to get a glimpse of the university's relationships with educators, scientists and business owners in that part of the state.
The 90 faculty will participate in the third annual Roads Scholars tour -- a two-day bus trip designed to give those new to the university a firsthand look at the range of ways Ohio State Extension agents, faculty, staff and students exchange expertise and resources with the state's citizens.
The trips are sponsored by The Ohio State University President's Council for Outreach and Engagement, a group that encourages the university's outreach with Ohioans. William E. Kirwan, now a year into his tenure as Ohio State's president, will participate in a portion of the tour.
Previous tours have covered Ohio locations ranging from historic sites and high schools to farms, factories and food companies (see this year's itinerary, below).
The program goals are: (1) to introduce newer faculty members to the diversity, beauty and resources of Ohio so they can have a greater understanding of their students' backgrounds as well as an appreciation for all the state has to offer; (2) to allow them to sample the ways Ohio State faculty research, teaching and service extend beyond the campus; and (3) to cultivate relationships among participating faculty that may lead to multidisciplinary work or development of supportive networks of colleagues.
