
UNIVERSITY PREPARES FOR FOOTBALL TRAFFIC--Sept. 11. Fans driving
to the Ohio State University football game tomorrow (9/11) and
throughout the season should plan to arrive early and follow
directions from officers. The season begins with an 8 p.m. game
against UCLA. Officials expect that due to the late kickoff,
parking lots will begin filling as early as mid-afternoon and
advise fans to plan on arriving at least two hours prior to
kickoff. All parking lots will open by 9 a.m. Day-of-game
parking is $5 (no charge with an OSU parking permit). Free bus
service from west campus begins at noon and runs continuously
until one hour after the game.

MBA STUDENTS ATTEND SUPER SEPTEMBER STARTUP--Sept. 13-Oct. 1.
First-year MBA students will get a real-world taste of today’s
business environment in orientation activities that focus on team
building and service. On Tuesday (9/14), students will develop
teamwork skills at Camp Lazarus with non-threatening activities
designed by the Adventure Education Center in Worthington. The
Ford Motor Co.presents details of a business deal as a case study
for students on Wednesday and Thursday (9/15-16). On Sept. 23-
24, two years worth of business transactions are condensed into
two days of strategic planning and problem solving with software
developed by IntelliSIM of Columbus. On Oct. 1, Fisher MBA
students will help build outdoor play equipment and work with
students and teachers at the Trevitt Elementary school in
Columbus.

MARCHING BAND ALUMNI PRACTICE FOR REUNION PROGRAM--Sept. 13-18.
More than 600 alumni of the OSU Marching Band return to Ohio
Stadium on Sept. 18 to celebrate their 31st annual reunion and
perform the quadruple Script Ohio at halftime of the OSU-OU game.
About 50 local members of the Alumni Band will gather for a
marching and playing refresher on Monday (9/13) at 7:30 p.m. in
the Stadium bandroom. Some 450 alumni are expected at the full-
scale rehearsal on Friday (9/17) from 7-8 p.m. at the Jesse Owens
North Recreation Center, Lane and Neil avenues. Saturday (9/18)
brings an outdoor rehearsal from 9 a.m.-noon in the temporary
band practice field south of Ohio Stadium, the ‘skull session’
pregame concert in St. John Arena from 1:30-2:45 p.m. and the
stadium entrance at 3:10 p.m. Ohio State also welcomes the Ohio
University Marching 110 in its first appearance in Ohio Stadium.
Because of the reunion, the OU Band will perform following the
game.

ROADS SCHOLARS VISIT NORTHEAST OHIO--Sept. 14-15. Ohio State
University faculty will hit the roads of northeast Ohio next week
to get a glimpse of the university's relationships with
educators, scientists and business owners in that part of the
state. The 90 faculty will participate in the third annual Roads
Scholars tour -- a two-day bus trip designed to give those new to
the university a firsthand look at the range of ways Ohio State
Extension agents, faculty, staff and students exchange expertise
and resources with the state's citizens. The tour departs from
the Fawcett Center and stops at the Newark campus, Coshocton,
Newcomerstown, Akron, Chesterland, Cleveland and Wooster before
returning to Columbus. The trips are sponsored by The Ohio State
University President's Council for Outreach and Engagement, a
group that encourages the university's outreach with Ohioans.
President Kirwan will participate in a portion of the tour.

OSU TEAMS WITH BALLETMET TO ASSIST CHRONICALLY ILL PATIENTS--
Sept. 15. BalletMet Columbus, in association with The Ohio State
University Medical Center, will conduct a therapeutic workshop
for women with chronic illness from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday
(9/15) at The OSU Center for Wellness and Prevention, Suite 1010,
2050 Kenny Road in Columbus. The workshop is part of a course
designed to help participants improve their self-esteem and
mobility with the use of physical and experiential learning
activities, including dance. The first and secondary lead dancers
from the BalletMet performance of “Butterfly” will appear in
costume. Gerard Charles, associate artistic director for
BalletMet Columbus, will discuss ballet as a universal art form
and its relation to the experiences of the participants. All
BalletMet participants either have been touched personally with
chronic disease or have a family member with chronic disease and,
so, can relate personally to the lives of the participants. The
workshop is full, but reporters and photographers are welcome.

THE JOY OF DRESSING UP IS A VIDEOSTREAMING DEMONSTRATION--Sept.
15. The Historic Costume and Textiles Collection’s exhibition,
Scaasi: The Joy of Dressing Up, will be the subject of a
demonstration of how videostreaming technology works at 3:30 p.m.
Wednesday (9/15). The public and media are invited to
participate in this interactive videostreaming event, which will
also allow you to see the classic garments of New York couture
designer Arnold Scaasi. Scaasi: The Joy of Dressing Up is a video
presentation of the Collection's exhibition that ran from Oct. 8,
1998 through Feb. 27, 1999. Gayle Strege, curator of the
Collection, will be in the site's chat room to answer questions
about the exhibition. Prior to the demonstration, visit the Web

UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCES GIFT FROM FORD MOTOR CO.--Sept. 17.
Representatives from the Fisher College of Business, the College
of Engineering, Division of Student Affairs and Ford Motor Co.
will announce a major gift to the university from Ford on Friday
(9/17). The event will take place at 1:30 p.m. on the outdoor
Plaza at the Fisher College of Business between Fisher & Gerlach
Halls, 2100/2108 Neil Ave. Speakers will include President
Kirwan and Robert Rewey, group vice president for marketing,
sales, and service at Ford in Dearborn, MI. Media parking will
