Welcome Week Festivities Feature Free Food

COLUMBUS -- Thousands of returning and first-year students flock to The Ohio State University campus on move-in day. They unpack boxes and boxes of stuff, say goodbye to parents -- then what? They need to eat. But where?

That's easy. Welcome Week, Sept. 19-26, features a long list of fun events at which students can meet and eat.

The week begins with the Ohio State women's volleyball game against Temple University at 3 p.m. Sept. 19 at St. John Arena. The Athletic Department is giving away free Donatos pizza, while it lasts, to all who attend.

That night, residents of Norton and Scott halls, along with friends and faculty of the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, can enjoy some more free food at the halls' opening bash from 4-7 p.m.

The free food doesn't stop after the first night; it's available throughout the week at the following events:

Monday (9/20)

  • ResRules! will pass out free breakfast bars and apples at the Blackburn House front desk at 8 a.m.
  • Community Commitment participants will get a free lunch of Papa John's pizza and beverages after the service part of the event.
  • The SASBA Cook-Out, starting at 4 p.m., is open to all students living in the south area residence halls.

  • Students can get free popcorn, popsicles and Coke products at the Monday night free movie, There's Something About Mary.
