COLUMBUS -- Malcolm Litchfield, a former acquisitions editor for the Princeton University and University of Michigan presses, has been named director of The Ohio State University Press.
Immediately prior to his Ohio State appointment, Litchfield signed authors for books in political science, law and music at the Princeton University Press. He joined Ohio State on Aug. 23.

The Press, with a staff of 15, is administered in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences.
According to the college’s dean, Randall Ripley, “Malcolm Litchfield comes to the Ohio State University Press with extensive experience in two first-class university presses. He will bring this experience and his own talents to bear in such a way that the Press will continue to grow in stature and impact.”
Litchfield studied piano at the Royal Conservatory of Music at the University of Toronto, and received his bachelor’s degree in music theory and composition from Brigham Young University and master’s degrees in musicology from Brigham Young and Princeton University. He pursued doctoral studies at Princeton and began work at Princeton’s University Press in 1990, first as an editorial assistant and later as publicity manager and assistant editor.
From 1992 to 1995, he served as an acquisitions editor at the University of Michigan Press and managed the computer systems staff. He returned to Princeton in 1995 as acquisitions editor.
The Ohio State University Press currently publishes some 35 new titles a year, along with five journals, for annual sales of $1.5 million. Its strengths include narrative studies, women and health, business history, legislatures, Victorian studies, urban studies and criminology.
