NEWS ADVISORY:
NEWS CONFERENCE CANCELED FRIDAY; CONGRESSIONAL VISIT WITH
STUDENTS STILL SCHEDULED FOR 6:30

   A news conference with five members of the House of Representatives and led by J.C. Watts Jr., R-Okla., scheduled for Friday (10/1) at The Ohio State University has been canceled.

   However, Watts, joined by U.S. Rep. Deborah Pryce, R-Ohio (15th district, including the university), and three additional Congressmen, will deliver a speech, as previously announced, at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the Ohio Union Ballrooms, 1739 N. High St. Ohio State is the first campus Watts is visiting as part of a national tour to encourage young people to participate in public service and community renewal. The event is targeted toward students, but is free and open to the public.

   Joining Watts and Pryce are Republican Congressmen Jim DeMint of South Carolina, Rick Lazio of New York and John Thune of South Dakota.

   Media are requested to be in place by 6 p.m. in the Ohio Union; a platform and mult box will be provided. A media seating section will be available.

   A previously scheduled tour of the Frank W. Hale Jr. Black Cultural Center at Ohio State also is canceled.
