Friday 11/19 - Monday 11/22 - For older adults, personality traits may be more important to physical health in determining psychological well-being. Ohio State University Psychology Professor Charles Emery looked at more than 3,000 adults and found that younger and middle-aged adults’ psychological well-being was associated with both personality and health status. But older adults were a different story--personality was more strongly associated with how content or distressed with life they were, and health status was less relevant.

Monday 11/22 - Wednesday 11/24 - The day before Thanksgiving is the busiest day of the year for the Food Industries Center at Ohio State. The center provides answers to practically any food related question you can imagine. Director Winston Bash says the answer to the most frequently asked pre-Thanksgiving question, “I have a 25 lb. turkey in my freezer and want to eat it by this afternoon. What can I do?,” is “Order out.” Bash also says to reduce the risk of food poisoning, don’t cook the stuffing inside the turkey. Cook it in a separate container.

Wednesday 11/24 - Friday 11/26 - As you hit the stores for the big holiday shopping season--use caution when carrying kids in shopping carts. A group of Ohio State researchers is calling for a redesign of the carts. Dr. Gary Smith, a professor of pediatrics at Ohio State and director of emergency medicine at Children’s Hospital in Columbus, says 25,000 kids a year are treated in emergency rooms for shopping cart-related injuries. He says the carts could be designed with a wider wheelbase and lower center of gravity to reduce tipping, or they could be fitted with a separate stroller.
