
Aviation and related industries are employing an increasing number and variety of workers as the profession grows. High school counselors, prospective college students and their parents, and others interested in aviation careers that require some college education are invited to a career day Friday (11/19) from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Ohio Department of Transportation's Aviation Division, 2829 W. Dublin-Granville Road. The event is supported by the Ohio State University Flight Education division and other members of the Ohio Council on Aviation Education.
Workshops will provide some hands-on experience in aviation- related activities. A limited number of introductory flight lessons will also be offered at a cost of $20 per person.
Ohio colleges and universities with programs in aviation will also have display booths. They include Bowling Green State University, Clermont Community College, Columbus State Community College, Kent State University, Ohio University, Ohio State and the University of Cincinnati.
An airline pilot, an aerospace engineer, an airframe and powerplant mechanic, and an aviation manager will discuss their career experiences. Representatives from the Federal Aviation Administration, Cincinnati Airport, PSA Airlines and BFGoodrich Aerospace will explain what it takes to go to work in their part of this industry.
Several aviation organizations will also have display booths, including Executive Jet Aviation, the Army and Air National Guard, Air Force ROTC, Navy ROTC, Army ROTC, the FAA, Women in Aviation, 99s, Tuskeegee Airmen, MedFlight, ODNR, Ohio State Highway Patrol and Civil Air Patrol.
