Function Statement/Summary of Duties
Provides vision, leadership, and strategic direction to the Office of Student Life. The Office of Student Life is a comprehensive unit dedicated to supporting the educational mission of the university and promoting the best possible overall experience for the diverse student body. The Vice President for Student Life reports to the Senior Vice President/Special Assistant to the President, serves as a member of the PresidentŐs Council and the UniversityŐs Senior Management Council and broadly collaborates with the Executive Vice President and Provost and other University and community leaders and constituents on all matters affecting the student experience.
The Vice President is responsible for making the Student Life office a national and international model of excellence. The Vice President will create a team that produces excellent results in overseeing the following units: counseling, career planning, student health services, student wellness, multicultural center, disability services, student advocacy, off campus and commuter student services, student housing legal clinic, parent association, university housing, residence life programs, campus dining services, hotel/ conference center operations, multi-purpose entertainment and athletic arena, student unions, student organizations and activities, recreational sports, student life research and assessment, student judicial affairs, university ID card operations, residential computing, and student success center.
The Vice President is responsible for an annual operating budget of $176 million including $37 million in university general funds, $138 million in annual earnings, and $1 million in endowment and miscellaneous income sources. The department maintains a physical plant of 6 million square feet of space in 127 facilities and employs 1000 regular and 4000 student employees. Although most operations are located at the Columbus campus, the Office operates housing and dining facilities at 4 regional campuses and provides oversight and consulting for an array of student services at all regional operations.

The Vice President is responsible for establishment and maintenance of a financial and operational processing environment that is focused on appropriate internal controls. This should include, but not be limited to appropriate segregation of duties in the processing of every financial transaction, appropriate mandatory approvals, appropriate procedures to maintain effective custody over University resources, appropriate monitoring and oversight and appropriate mandatory reconciliations.
Specific Content Knowledge/Skills
Required:
Demonstrated leadership skills with significant experience managing both the human resource and business operations components of a complex organization within a multifaceted community. Proven experience in planning and fiscal complexities. Extensive record of achievement in executive leadership positions in either student life at a large, public research university or an organization with similar opportunities and challenges. A demonstrated ability to be a persuasive and articulate advocate for students and Student Life.
Advanced degree in a relevant discipline
In accordance with the Disaster Preparedness and University State of Emergency Policy 6.17 this position has been designated as an essential position.
Desired:
PhD or terminal degree in a relevant discipline .
Membership in, and contributions to, appropriate professional associations in the field of non-academic student services.
Academic experiences that will be credible to faculty.
Understanding of late adolescent and adult student development.
Significant experience interacting with and engaging the University community, and all appropriate community organizations, to foster a campus climate that supports student education, development, and empowerment and is welcoming and supportive of multiculturalism and globalism.
