Join Sarasota Buckeyes for lunch, a tour of the beautiful bayfront oasis – and a special presentation.

The Ohio State University Alumni Association invites you to experience the living collection of rare tropical plants at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. You’ll enjoy a delicious lunch catered by Michael’s on East, embark on a self-guided tour of the lush gardens, and hear a special presentation on plant pathology by Dr. Randy Rowe, professor emeritus of Ohio State’s Department of Plant Pathology.

  • Sautéed breast of chicken in a caper, mushroom, sundried tomato and white wine sauce
  • Seared lumpmeat crab cakes with classic remoulade
  • Chopped salad with mixed vegetables and cheeses, topped with a garlic oregano dressing
  • Wild mushroom ravioli sautéed in browned butter, sage and pecorino

About the speaker

Randall C. Rowe, PhD, professor emeritus at the Ohio State Department of Plant Pathology, served over 32 years on the faculty at the university's Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center in Wooster, Ohio. While there, he was actively engaged in researching crop diseases such as potatoes, tomatoes and other vegetables. In addition to mentoring graduate students, he worked closely with commercial vegetable growers, along with Ohio citizens, to help them effectively manage diseases in their crops. Later in his career, he served as the administrative leader for Ohio State faculty and programs in plant health management on both the Columbus and Wooster campuses.
