About Best Food Forward:
Best Food Forward was created at The Ohio State University with the goal of enriching lives through increasing accessibility of healthy produce.
To meet this goal, Best Food Forward built the area's first food bulk-buying club, where members pre-order massive amounts of produce and spread it out amongst each other. This results in an average of 50% savings compared to a normal grocery store, and promotes community involvement.
Best Food Forward is working to expand their impact beyond Ohio State in order to enrich communities nationally by providing them access to healthy, cheap produce.
Christina Allen is a third year Human Nutrition and International Studies double major with a French minor. She is the co-President of Best Food Forward. She is from Burke, Virginia, but has had the privilege of interning in Kenya and Iowa where she saw the substantial impact of food in people’s everyday lives.
Allison Swanka is a fourth year environmental science undergraduate specializing in soil science and sustainability, and is writing her honors research thesis under Dr. Rattan Lal. She currently serves as co-President of Best Food Forward, overseeing the organization’s communications, marketing, and event planning. She also works at Ohio State’s Chadwick Arboretum. After graduation in the spring, she is considering working in environmental consulting or policy, and possibly continuing on to graduate school.
Sophia Gielink is a fifth year Food Engineering student with a focus in bioconversion and entomophagy. She currently leads the Nutrition and Education committee of Best Food Forward, which aims to help members integrate fresh fruits and vegetables into their diets on a regular basis. Outside of the classroom, you can find Sophia rock climbing and biking, or cooking up delicious plant-based food!
