Welcoming Michelle Morgan 

Michelle Morgan joined the Alumni Association in September as its new Digital Engagement Specialist. Morgan previously worked for Ohio State’s Office of Student Life as the Interim Assistant Marketing Director, and will work closely with Association and University Communications staff in driving the OSUAA social media strategy. Alumni invited to participate in photography competition

All current students, faculty, staff, visiting scholars and alumni at The Ohio State University are invited to submit their photos to the 2014 International Photography Competition. Entries will be accepted until Monday (10/20) at 4 p.m. and online voting will take place from 5 p.m. Monday, October 20, through 4 p.m. Monday, November 3. This is a wonderful opportunity to share your original photographs from around the world.

Scholarship leaders

Information about the Alumni Association’s 2015-16 scholarship season will be sent to you in September. It isn’t too early to start planning and selecting your scholarship committee. Student lists will be sent in early January and scholarship amount projections will be sent in early February. The deadline for club ASP Cover Sheet and Rankings is February 25. If you have questions, contact Leslie Smith.

Speakerprofile

Dr. Alam Jeffrey T. LeJeune
Professor and head, Food Animal Health Research Program

LeJeune is a veterinarian with advanced training and specialization in microbiology and public health. He worked for several years for the government in the area of food inspection before focusing his research interests on how to better prevent the transmission of infectious agents among animals, the environment, and people. He has authored nearly 100 journal articles on the subject, and serves on State, national and international committees working to enhance the safety of the food supply and public health.

The Midwest’s largest cancer hospital is about to open at Ohio State, and a globally recognized leader in the fight against cancer is taking the helm at Pelotonia, which has raised $61 million for cancer research at Ohio State.

FAES receives largest-ever gift

A $7 million estate gift from the late Delma Roush will establish the Delma L. Roush Scholarship Fund in support of students in Ohio State’s College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES). The gift is a record donation to the college.

A solar cell that stores its own power

Is it a solar cell? Or a rechargeable battery? Actually, the patent-pending device invented at The Ohio State University is both: the world’s first solar battery. In the October 3, 2014 issue of the journal Nature Communications, the researchers report that they’ve succeeded in combining a battery and a solar cell into one hybrid device.
