‘Marching orders’ photo wins fans

Get your hands on a national championship 'quick cals' photo!

Dozens of fans — of Buckeye football and The Best Damn Band in the Land — reached out to Ohio State Alumni magazine to see if they could get their hands on this photo, which appeared in the January–February 2015 issue. And now they (and you, if you’re so inclined) can!

Kevin Fitzsimons of University Communications took the photo before the Jan. 12 national championship game. It shows the band and team doing “quick cals,” a brief series of calisthenics that helps both (and usually the Ohio Stadium student section) get revved up before games.

Coach Urban Meyer instituted the tradition two years ago, and it’s really caught on with players, band members, students and, now, Buckeye fans in general. It certainly had a place in a memorable season that culminated with Ohio State’s 42–20 defeat of Oregon to claim the first College Football Playoff National Championship.
