On tour with Brittany Kiefer

See why this alum loves the long hours, heavy lifting and big pressure of arena pop shows.

Brittany Kiefer ’07 is hard-core. Just ask the rough-and-tumble crew of roadies who work alongside the 32-year-old Ohio State graduate morning, noon and night.

A theater major who broke into show business when she got a production assistant gig at the Schottenstein Center as a college senior, Kiefer has spent the past decade earning her stripes on the road one grueling night after another. You name it — managing wardrobe, building stages, hanging acrobatic rigging, running automation that lifts and shifts set pieces — Kiefer has done it for high-wattage stars including Beyonce, Fleetwood Mac, Black Sabbath and Stevie Nicks.

While working as head of automation on Lorde’s Melodrama tour, Kiefer migrated this spring back to her old stomping grounds for a March 31 tour stop. “I always tell people I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for Ohio State,” Kiefer says. “It was so lovely to be back and see all the familiar faces who saw my potential and believed in me.”

Tag along backstage with Kiefer during her homecoming as we follow her until the curtain rises.
