Music Education Support Fund
Supports emerging priorities in the areas of students, faculty, and activity of the Music Education program. Expenditures at the discretion of the director of the School of Music or his/her designee.

Music Care Fund
Supports Music Therapy Program for Patients at the OSUCCC – James. Expenditures shall be approved in accordance with the current guidelines and procedures established by the OSUCCC – James.

An award for an entering music major student based on School of Music audition, SAT and ACT composites and the recommendation of faculty, to be awarded annually

Frank Kinnan Scholarship in Music
Established February 6, 1987, by his family and friends. Income is awarded to outstanding students in the School of Music who anticipate careers as public school music teachers and play a woodwind as their major instrument. Recipients will be selected by the established procedures within the School of Music, with final approval by the director of the School of Music and the dean of the College of The Arts in cooperation with the University Committee on Student Financial Aid.

Walter Damrosch Music Scholarship
Established December 4, 1944, by the Blue Network Company of the National Broadcasting Company and Professor Eugene J. Weigel, then chair of the Department of Music. Scholarship for a member of the University Symphony Orchestra with an academic standing of 3.0 or better and senior rank. A nominating the committee of the Department of Music, one member of which shall be the Director of the Orchestra, will consider candidates under the above conditions and make nomination of not more than two candidates. The nominations will be presented to the faculty as a whole and a vote taken for the appointment of the recipient of the scholarship. The Chairman of the Department, by authority of the vote of the Faculty, will make formal request each Spring Quarter for the scholarship to be effective in the following Autumn Quarter. In the event there are no eligible candidates, the scholarship will not be awarded and the increment will be credited to the scholarship fund.

Supports travel expenses that enable School of Music ensembles to perform on major stages in the United States and abroad.

Music, Theatre and Arts Facilities Fund
Supports new construction and renovation in the School of Music, Department of Theatre and other arts facilities in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Nina Weigel Music Scholarship Fund
Established September 4, 1951, by the music group of the University Women's Club and friends in her memory. the income to be used for scholarships to undergraduate female students meeting the following qualifications: (1) from the Junior or Senior Class, (2) having point average of 2.75 or better; (3) show promise of leadership in music and with well-poised, genial personality, (4) appear as guest artist once a year for the Music Group. The awards shall be made by the University Scholarship Committee on recommendation of the School of Music Faculty. Scholarships are to be awarded in multiples of $60 and any excess income is to be added to the principal. In the event that the School of Music should cease to exist, then the awards shall be made by the President or then Chief Executive Officer to any female student majoring in Music.

Heather Pick Music Program Fund
For portable music/video recording stations in the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, Center for Critical Care and Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center as well as continued funding to support the operational costs of an ongoing music program, musical equipment and artists’ fees, when necessary.

The Virginia A. Bridges Music Education Award
Established December 5, 1997, with a gift from Virginia A. Bridges (MA in Music '51; PhD in Music Education '65) of Temple Terrace, Florida; used to provide awards to current graduate students in Music Education in increments of $1,000, with preference shown first to those specializing in the teaching of elementary or secondary general music, and second to graduate students specializing in the teaching of instrumental music. David and Michele Meeker Scholarship in Music
Established September 2, 1998, by Michele Meeker and friends in memory of Dr. David Meeker, director and professor emeritus, School of Music. Eighty percent of income provides renewable undergraduate scholarships to music majors, preferably music education students. Remaining income is reinvested to principal. If no candidates, all income is reinvested to principal. Recipients will be selected by the Director of the School of Music in consultation with the University Committee on Student Financial Aid. The scholarships will be awarded annually and may be renewed at the discretion of the selection committee.

Established September 4, 1987, by his family. Income covers honoraria and expenses for eminent scholars from any discipline lecturing on a topic of critical importance to scholarship in the theory of music.

The Society of Alumni and Friends of the School of Music Scholarship Fund
Established June 7, 1979, by alumni and friends of the School of Music. The annual income and principal is to be used to provide scholarships for talented undergraduate music majors enrolled in the School of Music. Recipients of such scholarships shall be selected by the Director of the School of Music. For any academic year the number and dollar amount of scholarships awarded annually under this program may be varied, as determined by the School of Music. Distribution for this purpose may be made from income or principal or both, until the funds available to support this program are exhausted.

Dr.Wilbur C. Held Endowed Music Scholarship Fund
Established June 5, 2015, with gifts from Linda S. Hoover (B Music 1965, MA 1970); used to provide scholarships for students who are enrolled in the School of Music with specializations in organ, piano, voice, or choral conducting, and majoring in performance, music education, music pedagogy, or conducting at the undergraduate or graduate level and with preference given to students who have demonstrated interest in liturgical music.

The Bernice B. Ross Memorial Scholarship Fund for Music
Established September 4, 1981, by Mr. Gene P. Dragonette. Income assists talented undergraduates in the School of Music. Recipients will be determined by the established procedures within the School of Music, with approval by the Director of the School of Music, who will also approve requisitions for payment.

Gertrude S. Woodin Memorial Scholarship Fund for Music
Established March 11, 1965, with her bequest. Income provides scholarships for students in the School of Music who plan to teach music in public schools, with preference to students with ability, character and need. The awards are to be made by the University Scholarship and Loan Committee on recommendation of the School of Music of said University.

Established July 8, 1983, by family and friends to recognize Dr. Reed's dedication and support of the campus' music program. Income supports music programs with up to 50% of income providing Dean's scholarships to students demonstrating leadership and excellence in music.

Kathryn Orsborn Kline Music Education Endowment Fund
Established November 7, 2008 with gifts from Benjamin Kline; used to provide a scholarship to a first-year student who is enrolled in the School of Music, plans on majoring in music education or music performance, demonstrates financial need, and graduated from a public high school in Morrow County, Ohio with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

The Janet and Grace Souders Crist Music Scholarship Fund
Established October 5, 1990, by Janet Souders Crist. Income provides scholarships/fellowships to students who are residents of Lancaster, Ohio; have graduated from a Fairfield County high school; and are majoring in Theory and Composition, and Composition, Music History and Literature, Music Performance, or Music Education. The Maude Taylor Stout Instrumental Music Scholarship Fund
Established May 8, 1987, by Whitney B. and Maude Taylor Stout. Eighty percent of income provides scholarships for academically superior students who are pursuing music degree study in instrumental music and/or have need. Remaining income is reinvested to principal. Recipients will be selected in accordance with procedures established in the School of Music, with final approval of the Director of the School of Music and the Dean of the College of The Arts, in cooperation with the University Committee on Student Financial Aid.

The David C. and Carrie A. Keller Scholarship Fund in Music
Annually $2,000 shall be awarded to provide talent-based merit awards to assist in the recruitment and retention of top-tier students for the School of Music. These awards will be distributed and renewed at the discretion of the director of the School of Music in consultation with the University’s Office of Student Financial Aid. This scholarship is renewable at the discretion of the director of the School of Music, provided that the recipient maintains a minimum level of satisfactory academic progress toward completion of a degree as determined by the director of the School of Music.

The Ohio State University School of Music Scholarship Fund
Established June 8, 1967, with a bequest by Kathryn S. Allensworth, in memory of Kathryn S. and H.R. Allensworth. Income assists students in the School of Music. Selection of the student or students to be assisted shall be made by the University Scholarship and Loan Committee, upon the recommendation of the Director of the School of Music. Should the School of Music, through a reorganization of the University, cease to exist, then the income is to be used for students whose major course of study is in the field of music.

Colleen McMahon Faculty Excellence Fund in Music
Established May 19, 2022, with a gift from the Honorable Colleen McMahon (BA 1973); used to support a professorship position in the School of Music if full fuding is reached. Prior to full funding or if the position is vacant, the annual distribution may be used to support faculty in the School of Music.

The Jack and Carol Evans Scholarship Fund in Music
Established July 11, 2003 by Carol Evans and friends in memory of Jack through The Foundation. Eighty percent of income provides renewable undergraduate scholarships to music majors, preferably in music education. Remaining income is reinvested to principal. If no candidates are eligible, the entire income shall be reinvested to the principal. Recipients shall be chosen by the director of the School of Music or an individual appointed by the director and in consultation with the University Committee on Student Financial Aid.

Provides one renewable scholarship for tuition, room, board enrolled in the SOM majoring in music education. 1st preference to choral education, 2nd to instrumental education. Preference to candidates from Fairfield or Franklin counties.

The William M and Darlene Aldrige Music Scholarship Fund
Established February 7, 2003, with gifts from the estate of Darlene Aldrige of Hillsboro, Ohio, and in memory of her husband, William M. Aldrige (BSAgr 1961); used to support scholarships for students enrolled in the School of Music. The student recipients must exhibit high moral standards, reside in Highland County, Ohio, and have graduated from a high school in Highland County, Ohio. If no students meet the selection criteria, second preference shall be given to students enrolled in the School of Music who exhibit high moral standards and graduated from a high school in one of the following Ohio counties: Clinton, Fayette, Ross, Pike, Adams or Brown. If no students meet the criteria as defined in second preference, the scholarship(s) will be open to all students enrolled in the School of Music who exhibit high moral standards and graduated from a high school in the State of Ohio. Established June 24, 2011 with gifts from Dr. A. Peter Costanza; used to provide two awards to students enrolled in the School of Music, one award to a Ph.D. student whose dissertation is considered most distinguished and one award to a D.M.A. student whose DMA document is considered most distinguished.

Established January 12, 1942, by the General Electric Company as a result of competition by music students from ten universities. Income provides scholarships for the School of Music.

Eugene J. Weigel Memorial Scholarship for Music Education
Established November 5, 1982, by friends and members of the Marching Band in his memory. The annual income is to be awarded to one or more outstanding undergraduate students majoring in music. recipients will be determined by the established procedures within the School of Music, with final approval by the Director of the School of Music, who will also approve requisitions for payment. Should the need for this fund cease to exist or so diminish as to provide unused income, then the income may be used for any purpose whatsoever as determined by the Board of Trustees, with preference being given to awards for (1) members of the marching band,(2) music majors, and/or (3) others recommended by the appropriate administrative official of the University responsible for music education.

Lieutenant Richard Deselm Fellowship for the Development of Choral Music
Established December 4, 1944, by Mrs. Helen DeSelm, in memory of her son who was killed in action at the Italian front. Income provides a fellowship in the School of Music.

Denise Spangler Zechman Music Education/Choral Scholarship
Provides one or more scholarships to incoming undergraduates who intend to major in choral-music education. It is the Donors’ desire to support two students annually. Scholarships may be awarded in varying amounts based on student enrollment, available funding and other factors. See gift agreement for full details.

Dr. Paul E. and Anne C. Droste Music Education Scholarship Fund
Established November 4, 2005, by the Drostes through The Foundation. Distribution provides aid to music education majors who have graduated from a Columbus Public High School. Unused distribution is reinvested to principal. Scholarship recipients will be selected by the head of Music Education as recommended by the director of the School of Music in consultation with the Office of Student Financial Aid.

Dr. Gay Y. Miller and Dr. Joseph Rosenblatt Music Scholarship
Provides one or more scholarships to undergraduate students who are majoring in the areas of voice or piano with preference for a focus on classical music and opera. If no students meet the selection criteria, the scholarship(s) will be open to all students who are enrolled in the School of Music, with a focus on performance of classical music. The purpose of this pending endowment is subject to change until the fund is formally approved as an endowment. Prior to formal approval, the pending endowment may be converted to a current-use fund.
