Smith is retiring July 1 after 19 memorable years as Ohio State’s inaugural Wolfe Foundation Endowed Athletics Director. The Buckeyes have won dozens of national championships and Big Ten titles – while also excelling in academics – under his guidance since 2005. He impacted the lives of countless student-athletes with the creation of the Eugene D. Smith Leadership Institute in 2019, and he kept Ohio State at the national forefront of college athletics by serving on numerous NCAA and conference boards and committees.
