A New York Times best-selling author, Smith has used her poetry to help navigate life’s challenges, and in the process has helped others do the same. Smith was born, raised and attended college and grad school in the Columbus area. In Ohio State’s Creative Writing Program, she found support, honed her craft and made connections that have lasted more than 20 years.

Hoying is an assistant clinical professor in The Ohio State University College of Nursing. She’s board-certified health and wellness coach, behavioral researcher and director of MINDSTRONG™, a seven-week evidence-based program to improve overall mental health and support positive adaptation to stress, anxiety and depression. She teaches MINDSTRONG to college students and health professionals.
