The Houston Family Gives Cody the Gift of Encouragement

Cody Gador, a third year mechanical engineering major, has already completed an internship as an associate mechanical engineer at ArcelorMittal. This Frank Houston Scholarship recipient has his sights set on so much more.

With such big dreams and opportunities to reach them, Cody told Mr. Greg Houston, who founded the scholarship in honor of his father, "It is hard to believe that I would have never been enrolled at Ohio State without scholarships like yours; the price of tuition would have been too expensive and my life would have been quite different indeed."

His internship last summer with the world's largest steel company taught Cody a lot about manufacturing, management, and mechanical maintenance, and reinforced Cody's desire to pursue his engineering degree.

"I love my school wholeheartedly and have enjoyed every minute spent in the engineering program," Cody said. He has already accepted a product development engineer internship for Ford Motors in Dearborn, Michigan for next summer.

Though he hopes to be hired into the automotive or aviation industry after graduation, Cody sees himself using his entrepreneur minor to patent and sell his own ideas down the line.

Cody says he is proud that he has set an academic example for his little brother and sister, and grateful to his donor for lifting a financial burden from his family.

"Thank you very much for your Frank Houston Scholarship Fund and I hope that you proceed to be a donor for scholarships at The Ohio State University for as long as possible so that deserving students have a chance to fulfill their dreams through a good education."

As the featured speaker at the 2012 Scholarship Reception, Greg Houston expressed, "To fulfill my vision for the Frank Houston Scholarship Fund, I want it to be about more than simply the money. For the recipients, I also want it to represent the people in their lives who gave or are now giving them the confidence to believe they can achieve anything."

This year, The Houston Scholarship instilled in yet another recipient the notion that a scholarship is not simply a relief of financial burden but instead, more often than not, a gift of encouragement.
