The Bruno Family Supports Students from Home County of Lorain, Ohio

Mr. and Mrs. Bruno
"But for Ohio State, I would not have had the education that provided such a positive influence on my life, both professionally and personally." For this reason John Bruno established a scholarship for students from his home of Lorain County. "I established the scholarship as my way of giving back to the two places that most influenced my life - Lorain, my home town, and Ohio State."

Every year, two students from the county attend Ohio State thanks to the support they receive from Mr. Bruno's scholarship. "The Bruno Family Scholarship is my family's way of giving back with the hope that future students from Lorain will enjoy the benefits of such a great university."

Mr. Bruno's grandparents came to Lorain all the way from Italy with the "simple goal of seeking a better life for their children." Both the rural and urban areas of the county have been hit hard by America's economic downturn, on top of the shift away from manufacturing. The per capita income of the county is $25,002, over $17,000 less than the national average. Sadly, 13.1% of the county's population lives below the poverty line.

"Lorain has seen some hard times, so I believe it is especially important to support students from Lorain County with an opportunity to attend Ohio State, so that they and future generations might have the same opportunities that were given to me," said Mr. Bruno.
