Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing

Since the establishment of the Office of Military and Veteran Services in fall 2013, a dedicated community of alumni and friends has stepped forward to support initiatives that empower and expand the veteran student experience at Ohio State. Ohio State has found an ideal partner in the Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing (OCCH) to further its mission, especially when it comes to veteran housing.

The Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing doesn't just support America's veterans on November 11th. This fall in a response to the needs of Ohio State veterans, they established the Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing Scholarship which will provide housing scholarships and program support for 10 Veteran Community Advocates next academic year.

The Veteran Advocate Program was launched this fall by the Major Lawrence Miller Fund and was quickly supported with gifts from the Liebert, Potondi and Barger families. This gift from the OCCH will guarantee that Ohio State is able to double the size of the program, and we are closing in on our targeted goal of thirty veteran advocates housing scholarships for the next academic year.

These ten Veteran Community Advocates, who will primarily reside in the Veteran Student House on campus, will be a part of a larger cohort of student veteran leaders. As an OCCH Advocate, they will identify ways the Veteran House can serve as a resource for the larger veteran community. The Office of Military and Veteran Services is seeking to find creative solutions to help address the housing need of all veteran students. The Advocate housing scholarships are extremely valuable as Ohio State strives to meet the housing needs of the diverse student veteran population attending The Ohio State University.

The Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing is a nonprofit financial intermediary that raises private capital from corporations to cause "the construction, rehabilitation and preservation of affordable housing in Ohio." The have raised over $2.75 billion in private capital in 625 projects with over 32,000 units of affordable housing. The lending program of OCCH, Ohio Capital Finance Corporation, has provided over $125 million in loans and their management services have helped turn around the portfolios of over 1,000 affordable housing units in the Columbus area.

The Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing assists countless Ohioans every day, but the Office of Academic Affairs would like to especially thank them for the support they give to the Buckeyes who have so bravely served our nation.
