Ohio State's Main Homepage
The New Media unit's main function within University Relations is to be an advocate and provider of content for visitors to Ohio State's main web site. Feature stories running in the main content area on osu.edu are coordinated through Kristen Convery. E-mail Kristen if you have an idea for a feature story, or want to learn more about the process for selecting content for the site. All offices and units are encouraged to reuse any and all content featured on osu.edu. Please contact Ted Hattemer to discuss easy ways for your web site to feature past Ohio State "Do Something Great" stories.
Broadcast E-mail Campaigns
New Media produces and distributes the all-alumni HTML formatted e-mail message, Connect. Using the vendor, Convio, Connect is sent on the second Tuesday of each month. Kristen coordinates and produces the content for this e-mail product. Contact her with ideas, suggestions, and submissions. All units, colleges, offices, etc., are able to send HTML-based e-mail messages to targeted alumni audiences using the university's contract with Convio. Simply submit e-mail components to the Ohio State Broadcast e-mail site at https://www.osu.edu/broadcastemail/signup. Clicking on this link will take you to a section where you can register for a Broadcast e-mail account. Once your account is active, use the main site at https://www.osu.edu/broadcastemail to manage your campaigns. For more information on sending broadcast e-mail campaigns, contact Ted.
New Media produces and edits video products, including public service announcements (PSA), web features, and longer form video products that promote the university's mission. Most videos are posted to the web site, "Do Something Great," at https://www.osu.edu/dosomethinggreat. Contact Jake Housh or Ted to discuss how you can take advantage of repurposing this content.
The Ohio State Events Calendar is open to all student organizations, units, and offices to post and promote their events. Once your calendar account is activated, you may post directly to https://www.osu.edu/events without any other approval process. Contact Ted with questions about the Ohio State Events Calendar.
Web Policy & Ohio State URLs
New Media manages the approval process of all osu.edu URL requests. Working with the Web Policy Committee, OIT's hostmaster, and designated IT contacts around campus, shorter URLs are assigned to help simplify a college, school, or unit's web presence. All osu.edu requests can be made through the request form at https://www.osu.edu/newmedia.
New Media mantains a presence on social media web sites, including Facebook (facebook.com/osu) and YouTube (youtube.com/osu).
Additionally, New Media is partnering with TELR, Libraries, and OIT to launch a presence on Apple's iTunes site. Videos, event information, and institutional news are posted to these sites, along with photos from the O-H-I-O campaign. O-H-I-O is the university's successful marketing and social media interaction initiative. Content from this site is now available as XML and RSS for inclusion on your web site. Contact Kristen to plan how to add O-H-I-O to your site.
