Native to China, the six-legged, triangle-shaped bug first appeared in North America in 2001. Squash one and an odor that some people find unpleasant tells you how it got its name.
Luckily, stink bugs don’t pose a threat to humans. However, they can devastate crops and can be an unwelcome nuisance in your house.
Entomologists at The Ohio State University, like Celeste Welty, are working on ways to manage the smelly bugs, preferably through natural methods, and contain its effects on the farming community.
5 ways to get rid of stink bugs:
1. Prevent them from entering in the first place.
2. Vacuum them up.
3. Startle; collect; then dispose in a plastic bag.
4. Create an indoor trap.
5. Call an exterminator.
