Great Lake of Great Importance

Listen to this episode

The health and quality of Lake Erie doesn’t just affect aquatic animal life. From clean drinking water to tourists, the research at Ohio State’s Stone Laboratory is essential.

One of the main efforts of researchers and students is to mitigate Lake Erie’s harmful algal blooms that release toxins.

Researchers work to inform the public so we can better understand how to mitigate the algal blooms that affect the lake’s water quality and the quality of the lives of people around the lake.

Stone Lab’s research goes beyond one lab. Their mission focuses on research, teaching, and outreach so people become stewards of the lake who care about Lake Erie and the environment as a whole.

Suzanne Gray, Ohio State researcher and Stone Lab’s associate director, studies how fish respond to environmental changes caused by humans and how to better protect aquatic biodiversity.
