About Sophia Antoun (she/her)

Sophia is the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Education Specialist at Ohio State’s Office of Academic Affairs. Sophia’s TEDx talk explores identity develop through a new and innovative lens.

As a first-generation Chinese-Arab American woman, Sophia has constantly heard the question, “where are you from?” throughout her lifetime. "Where are you from" is one of the most common microaggressions that folks in the Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community contend with on a daily basis.

In her talk, Sophia proposes to challenge this question with a new one: “When am I from?”  "When am I from?” explores AAPI identity development through understanding family history, intergenerational trauma, and encouraging self-actualization and healing.

For in-person attendees

Heavy apps and dessert will be provided by two local API-owned restaurants – Bonifacio and Three Bites Bakery.
