Heather Hampel sees Pelotonia working.
A genetic counselor at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute, she screens all new colorectal cancer patients in Ohio for hereditary markers that could give their family members early warning. Hampel's research is supported directly by Pelotonia dollars.
As she snaked her way along a 50-mile course Saturday with Team Buckeye, Hampel explained that the first patient who screened positive was an employee of Huntington – a major sponsor of Pelotonia.
“The whole thing came full circle,” she says, pedaling along. “That’s why I ride.”
More than $11.8 million has been raised so far this year – and fundraising continues. You can support Hampel and others on Team Buckeye who are working toward one goal: end cancer.
