"Beach Buckeyes"

by Patrick Stephan, - 1973 graduate with a BS Ceramic Engineering. I live in Massachusetts, but have been a footbal season ticket holder and huge fan since 1969 when I started school at OSU.

I was walking along the beach in Manasota Key, Florida (near Sarasota) and came across a group of Buckeyes. I asked if they would like to form O H I O on the beach. We, as total stangers, were brought together by a common link to Buckeye Nation! Nice suit on that lady!

It started out as a simple football cheer. But today, "O-H-I-O" means the whole package: strong athletic traditions, major school spirit, academic achievements, and outreach efforts.

Gameday O-H-I-O

Fans, band members, and even Brutus showed their Buckeye pride outside the Shoe before the Ohio State v. Minnesota game (Oct. 24, 2009).
