"Welcome Week" Welcomes First-Time Buckeyes to Campus

First Year Experience

Ohio State places special emphasis on students' first year on campus. First Year Experience (FYE) programs are designed to help students get comfortable on campus, connect with the university and start to think of Ohio State as home. With more than 100 Welcome Week events for students, it is important for first-year Buckeyes to make good choices about which ones they participate in. Here are seven events first-time Buckeyes should not miss:

Student Involvement Fair:

Sunday, August 21 - 4 - 7 p.m. on the Oval Members of more than 700 Ohio State student organizations and campus departments, businesses and community agencies will be around the Oval to share with students a little bit about what they do. This is the first and best opportunity for students to chat with them and start determining what they will get involved with outside of classes.

President's Convocation:

Monday, August 22 - 10:30 a.m. at the Schottenstein Center Convocation is a kick-off to a first-year Buckeye's academic career! Students hear from President Drake, faculty, administrators and special guests, and are introduced to some time-honored university traditions including "Carmen Ohio," the Ohio State alma mater.

First-Year Student COLUMBUS Welcome:

Monday, August 22 - 11:45 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Schottenstein Center The First-Year Student COLUMBUS Welcome introduces the class of 2019 to many of the great sites, attractions and opportunities our wonderful city has to offer through a high-energy, multi-media production featuring key community leaders and alumni. First-year students will learn how to take advantage of the wealth of opportunities that exist just beyond the boundaries of campus in one of the country's premier cities, Columbus.

Buck-i-Frenzy:

Monday, August 22 - 1 - 5 p.m. at the RPAC Students have the opportunity to enjoy four hours of food, friends and free stuff in and around the RPAC as Coca-Cola and the Office of Student Life present Buck-i-Frenzy! The Frenzy includes dozens of restaurants and businesses showcasing the latest in food, fashion, technology, products and services.

Campus Locator Booths:

Tuesday, August 23 and Wednesday, August 24 - All Day, All Over Campus It's no secret that Ohio State's campus is a big one. It's pretty spread out, and there's absolutely no shame in not knowing exactly how to get to your destination right away. On the first two days of classes, students will be able to take advantage of Campus Locator Services, hundreds of volunteers spread out all over campus with maps and good information on getting you where you need to be.

Buckeye Kick-Off:

Thursday, August 25 - 6 p.m. at Ohio Stadium Students have the opportunity to participate in the year's most dynamic Ohio State spirit event at Buckeye Kick-Off! They will enjoy free food and interactive games at the fan fest and tailgate on the south plaza outside the Ohio Stadium south stands at 6 p.m. Gates to the stadium open at 6:30, and the multimedia program, featuring TBDBITL, Ohio State celebrities, a Block O card stunt and more begins at 7 p.m.

Community Commitment:

Saturday, August 27 - 9 a.m. at the Ohio Union Community Commitment provides an opportunity for Ohio State students to make connections with the community surrounding the university. Students have the opportunity to make a difference, meet new friends and get involved in a super service opportunity at Community Commitment 2015.
