The Geib Family Scholarship

Kiki Ramos

"A few years ago a pleasant young man came to visit. His name was Michael Haddock from the Scholarship and Student Support team at Ohio State. He wanted to talk about our history with the university and after two hours we were still talking. During the visit he planted a seed in our minds about financial aid. He came back for a second visit a year later and we talked more and more about the possibility of supporting students at Ohio State.

After his second visit, my wife and I talked and decided to set up a plan that would encourage students from high schools that she and I were very involved with over the past 50 years. The schools we are talking about are the Vermilion Local Schools in Vermilion, Ohio.

We did this because we both graduated from Ohio State and benefited so greatly over the past 56 years from our experiences and feel very blessed to have had the opportunity to attend. We both loved going to the athletic activities and made many friends. Following graduation we continued going to the football games as often as possible and finally obtained season tickets. Over the next 43 years we had so many fantastic times at the tailgates and games, our love for Ohio State became even stronger.

If any of the young women or men can experience something like we did, we will be proud to have contributed to their life and success. We were very fortunate to meet one of those students at the Annual Scholarship Reception last fall. We came away so elated it is hard to express our feelings. Let us just say "GO BUCKS" in the classroom and on the field."
