Local Altrusan "changes the world for the better"

Altrusa

"We are only here for a small amount of time and there is a lot of good that we can do. Philanthropy enriches the giver and changes the world for the better," said Linda Nusbaum, former president of Altrusa of Columbus, noting why she and the organization as a whole give their time and effort.

The Altrusa International Foundation is a not-for-profit, philanthropic corporation established in 1962 by Altrusa International, Inc., a worldwide volunteer service organization devoted to contributing to human well-being through the development and implementation of effective local community service programs.

Altrusa International of Columbus, Ohio, Foundation has two funds through which it pays forward to the community: one for education and one for service. A bequest from a local Altrusan, Dorothy Scrivner, made it possible for the foundation to establish the CDW scholarship from its education fund.

Dorothy was only 44 years old when she passed away, but she was a longtime education administrator in the Columbus City Schools, a community leader and an adjunct professor here at Ohio State. As an Altrusan, she stipulated that her bequest help women in the Columbus community, and the Altrusa Critical Difference for Women Scholarship was born.

Since 2010, her generosity has helped a multitude of women who have had their education interrupted return to Ohio State and achieve their maximum potential.
