Homecoming, always a joyous reunion

Ohio State cheerleaders in 1957 at the homecoming game against Purdue

Around 130 students and donors enjoyed the 2014 Annual Scholarship Reception on Thursday October 16. For many, this event kicked-off Homecoming weekend.

Student speaker, Annelise Del Rio shared how the H. Fred Krimendahl II Endowed Preeminent Scholarship has allowed her to continue her undergraduate cancer research.

Zach Cooper, the second student speaker, shared his experience of losing his livelihood in the 2008 housing market crash, joining the military and being stationed in Hawaii, and subsequently ending up enrolled and entrenched at Ohio State. Zach thanked the Don and Linda Barger Family for their Veteran Community Advocate Scholarship, which has allowed him to focus on not only his studies, but also cultivating a better campus for veterans.

The next day, Oct. 17, was the Ohio State Homecoming Parade, one of Ohio State's biggest and longest running traditions. Student organization floats, colleges, departments, community organizations, and local celebrities together take part in it every year. Infact, the university has an archive of photos from Homecoming history online.

It began at the Ohio Stadium and ended at the Ohio Union. Along the route were grandstand announcing and seating areas, food, and drinks for students, alumni, OSU family and friends. Following the parade was the Homecoming Pep Rally, sponsored by the Ohio State University Alumni Association and the Student-Alumni Council, inside the Ohio Union.

Buckeye nation was treated to a great fall Saturday the following day, as they defeated Rutgers Scarlet Knights 56-17 in the Shoe. Before the game, Amit Raghuvanshi, finance major, and Chasmine Anderson, sociology major, were awarded 2014 Homecoming King and Queen.
