‘Buckeye Bullet’ speeds into theaters

Ohio State legend Jesse Owens is at the center of the new film Race, which takes a close look at the icon and how his legacy still resonates today.

Owens overcame many literal and figurative hurdles on his way to winning gold medals and setting world records at a time when the treatment of African Americans was decidedly unequal. Still, Owens kept his post-athletic focus on helping others and ensuring opportunities through the Jesse Owens Foundation.

Members of Owens’ family and the Race cast joined Ohio State President Michael V. Drake for an on-campus screening of the film in mid February. Drake highlighted Owens’ historical importance noting, “His legacy reminds us of how far we’ve come, and that there is much more room for us to grow as a more just and inclusive society.”
