Virtual learning

Many students will be taking advantage of online or blended learning again this semester after the Office of Distance Education and eLearning, the Drake Institute and other support staff helped instructors to move more than 12,000 courses online in March.

“It has been a whole community effort,” said Rob Griffiths, associate vice president of online education.

For autumn semester, students were able to review the mix of in person, online and blended courses being offered and choose courses that meet their needs.

Griffiths said the key to a successful online learning experience is for students to establish a connection with their instructors and communicate about the ongoing experience and their needs.

“Technology is a medium,” he said. “What we’re doing is still people-driven, education-driven. Connections and relationships are as important online as they are in person.”
