Ohio State to help 15,700 students. The university has expanded by $20 million the President’s Affordability Grant program, which provides need-based aid to Ohio students. That brings investment in the affordability initiative — part of President Michael V. Drake’s 2020 Vision for Ohio State — to $35 million.

Scarlet, gray and green. Ohio State won its fourth-straight Big Ten Conference title for sustainability efforts on game days. Overall, 68 tons of waste inside Ohio Stadium went to recycling or composting during the 2015 football season — with an average waste diversion rate of more than 96 percent.

In a galaxy far, far away. What’s just 10 miles across, but powers an explosion brighter than the Milky Way? A team led by Ohio State astronomers recently spotted and are now studying what may be the most powerful supernova ever seen — 570 billion times brighter than our sun.

Saving lives. The Wexner Medical Center and University Hospital East earned the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence — putting each in the top five percent of U.S. hospitals, as evaluated by Healthgrades. If all hospitals performed at this high level, nearly 160,000 lives could be saved each year.

Top 10 in the nation. Ohio State’s online bachelor’s degree offerings and graduate nursing program were ranked in the top 10 by U.S. News & World Report. They are among the many distance-learning opportunities focused on access, affordability and excellence for students across the globe.
