Scholarship Recipient Olivia Green
"My name is Olivia Green and I am a grateful recipient of the Sanford G. Price and Isabelle Price Barbee Scholarship. This scholarship allows me to focus on my studies and get involved on campus in multiple organizations.
I am from Bellevue, Ohio and I graduated from Bellevue High School in Spring 2016. In high school, I participated in both sports and extra-curricular activities including clubs, leadership organizations, and volunteering at local facilities. I am now in the middle of my sophomore year at The Ohio State University at Lima where I have continued by involvement in leadership and volunteer opportunities. I am a member of the Honors Program and I was able to travel to Washington D.C. in May 2017 with this group. In May 2018, the Honors Program will be traveling to Toronto, Canada and I will be going with them as well! This year, I am Vice President of Student Senate which is the student government on campus. Through this organization I have been able to represent our group in search committee meetings and campus events. Also, I have been a Red Cross volunteer for a little over a year now through Student Senate. As a Red Cross volunteer, I have been trained and certified as a presenter of the Pillowcase Project, which is a program to teach young students how to be prepared for natural disasters and home fires.
For the past year I have gone into local elementary schools teaching this program to young children and I will continue this work next year. I am also an undergraduate research assistant in the Psychology Department here at Ohio State Lima. I was able to present a research project at The Denman Undergraduate Research Forum at Ohio State in Columbus and also at The American Psychological Association's National Convention in Washington D.C. in August 2017. This year, I am continuing my involvement in the research labs this year and I am on track to present at Denman again and at APA's convention next August in San Francisco.
As you can see, I am very busy on campus. My favorite experience that I have from the Ohio State Lima campus was a summer class that I took in June 2017. This class was offered for students who were interested in studying differences between biological habitats throughout the American West. Part of this class was to travel to the American West to collect biological samples that we then would use to compare the different habitats. On this trip we visited the Badlands, Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park, Dinosaur National Monument, Rocky Mountain National Park, and many more stops along the way! This trip was, by far, the best experience of my life and I would not have been able to go if it wasn't for your generous contribution.
Currently, I am continuing my roles in my clubs and as a research assistant. I am pursuing a bachelor's degree in psychology and from there I will apply to graduate school to pursue a doctoral degree in occupational therapy. This is my last year on the Ohio State Lima campus and next fall I will be transferring to the main campus in Columbus. There, I will hopefully continue my involvement in undergraduate research and other volunteer organizations.
I am incredibly grateful for the Sanford G. Price & Isabelle Price Barbee Scholarship. I have been able to succeed both in and out of the classroom without having to work a full time job. Without this scholarship, I would not have been able to get involved on campus, gain valuable research experience, or have traveled throughout the United States. This scholarship means more to me than you will ever know. "
