National Champions on and off the field
|
Ohio State’s football team overcame a significant amount of adversity to earn its eighth national championship by defeating Oregon 42-20 in the inaugural college football championship.
The 2002 football champions showed their support before the game, and Ohio State fans demonstrated their passion for the university by defeating Oregon fans in the Bucks vs. Ducks Giving Challenge.
The victory buoyed the university community and provided another example of how being a Buckeye and achieving success go hand in hand. It has brought more attention to the ways Ohio State is winning championships in the classroom as well.
The university will celebrate the football championship with a free event at Ohio Stadium on January 24.

Although he grew up and attended college in eastern Pennsylvania, Timothy E. Heron dedicated his entire four-decade career to Ohio State. He spent the first 28 years teaching special education, then retired to become an instructor with the flight education program. Heron continues to stay connected to the university through a scholarship fund he and his wife, Marge, set up in 2004. |

Six faculty inducted as fellows. Six Ohio State faculty were selected by their peers in 2014 as fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, including Bruce McPheron, dean of the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
