International Expeditions
For 30 years, travelers have relied on International Expeditions’ matchless expertise to discover the captivating wildlife, inspiring landscapes and fascinating cultures of Earth’s most pristine natural and cultural wonders. IE pioneered small-group adventures to the Peruvian Amazon in 1980, and our engaging journey aboard La Amatista offers a detailed look at the rainforest’s wildlife, customs and ecological issues — all through the eyes of passionate, knowledgeable local naturalists.
International Expeditions’ award-winning itineraries include a conservation focus. IE has spent three decades in the Amazon, developing relationships with the people who live so close to the rainforest. We are dedicated to preserving this habitat and improving life for those who live along the Amazon and its tributaries. Two of our most important conservation projects are providing clean water and educational support for communities near Iquitos and the Pacaya-Samiria Reserve. IE has been heavily involved in projects downriver, including building three water treatment plants; funding the Adopt-A-School program which serves 120 rural school; and funding the Amazon Medical Clinic started by past guest Dr. Linnea Smith. During your Amazon Voyage, you will learn more about these important projects and how you can play a role in improving life in the rainforest.
