Event description
Indulge in light refreshments at our pre-show reception, and stick around after the curtain call for a special talkback discussion with members of the cast and creative team. This event is in association with Ohio State Alumni Societies the Black Alumni Association and Scarlet & Gay. Don’t miss the chance to join the party with fellow Buckeyes at the smart and hilarious new play, FAT HAM!
In this witty take on Shakespeare’s Hamlet, the only real death is the patriarchy. To be or not to be certainly is the question for Juicy, a young, queer Black man. Juicy grapples with identity, family, responsibility and honesty as generations clash at a backyard barbecue, serving up all the drama, wit and existential angst of the Bard with a generous side of humor and heart. See what the New York Times calls “a hilarious yet profound tragedy smothered in comedy,” in James Ijames’ Pulitzer Prize–winning FAT HAM.
Check out The Contemporary Theatre website for more information on the play.
Listen to a message about the history of the play and his Ohio State connection from alum Rashad Chambers, JD ’05, MA ’05, a producer of FAT HAM on Broadway!
