Detroit: 8th Annual Boating Event

Event description

The only thing Michigan may have on Ohio? Beautiful lakes — and we’re taking full advantage of it! Join fellow Buckeyes for a fun-filled day on Cass Lake from noon to 6 p.m. Enjoy time on the water and great company in a relaxed, family-friendly setting. 

This free outdoor event is all about soaking up the sunshine and connecting with fellow alumni. Take advantage of activities like water volleyball, kayaking and paddleboarding — and if the wind cooperates, even sailing!

We’re also excited to be hosted by fellow Buckeye and former Ohio State kicker, Tom Klaban, best known for beating Michigan with his foot alone. During the event, Tom will share insights from his book The Sidewinder and will be available for book signings. A portion of book proceeds will benefit the Alumni Club of Detroit. 

The Sidewinder tells the powerful true story of the Klaban family’s daring ten-year journey to escape life behind the Iron Curtain. Through resilience, hope and extraordinary determination, they navigated Cold War Europe in pursuit of a new life in America.

Registration

All guests are welcome, but we please ask for each attendee to individually register online. When signing up, let us know if you’re able to bring a boat or any watersport equipment, as well as what dish you’d like to share. The club will provide the main course and non-alcoholic beverages.
