Event description

We have the fantastic opportunity for a private tour of the University of Louisville’s Advanced Heart Failure Research Program Lab led by the Director of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Simulation Labs and Ohio State Alumna, Dr. Gretel Monreal.

The research program at the University of Louisville is only one of a handful in the world with expertise in the development and testing of cardiovascular devices including total artificial hearts, left ventricular assist devices and other accessory technologies. The tour will include the opportunity to see and hold the many cardiovascular devices the lab has helped develop over the years, including the Abiomed AbioCor total artificial heart, which made the cover of Newsweek in 2001 and put the University of Louisville on the map as the premier institution for cardiovascular device development. We will see how these devices are developed and tested and visit the simulation bay where surgeons are trained on how to implant them. We will also learn about the lab’s K–12 outreach efforts to get kids excited about STEM careers and heart-healthy living.

We will meet at the main entrance. Please wear long pants and closed toe shoes.
