Scarlet & Gay: Volunteer at Sanctuary Night

Event description

Join the Scarlet & Gay Alumni Society for a meaningful day of service at Sanctuary Night, a survivor‑led drop‑in center on Columbus’s West Side devoted to creating a safe, sacred space for vulnerable women seeking rest, community and essential resources. 

Sanctuary Night supports women impacted by exploitation, homelessness, substance use disorders and trauma by offering meals, clothing, hygiene items, relational support and connections to needed services. As Buckeyes, we lift one another up - and this event is a powerful way to embody that spirit. 

By volunteering, you’ll help provide dignity, safety and compassion to women who visit the center. Your service helps sustain a healing environment grounded in trauma‑informed, survivor‑led care.

As Buckeyes, we lift up others, and this experience powerfully embodies that spirit. Our event is open to all, including alumni, family and friends.

Together, we can make an impact on our community!

Additional Details

Volunteers may support activities such as:

• preparing and serving meals
• restocking and organizing the clothing and hygiene closet
• assisting with hospitality and creating a welcoming environment
• helping with light facility tasks to keep the space safe and comforting

Exact duties may vary based on Sanctuary Night’s needs that day.

Registration

Steps to register:

1. Go the the Besa website to sign up for an account
   1. In the top right corner select "sign up" and add your information.
   2. When asked if you are joining on behalf of an agency select "yes" and "OSUAA".
   3. You will receive an email to confirm your account, please do this ASAP. Then, your account is created!
2. Register for a shift
   1. Once you’ve created and verified your BESA account, sign up here for this volunteer shift (you’ll need to log in to your account to sign up).
   2. When you click the link above, you’ll be taken to a post sharing more about the opportunities. Select an opportunity and click the green "sign up" button.
   3. Click the green "confirm my spot" button.
   4. You’ll receive an email confirming your sign up with all of the event details.
