Where is Brutus? Scarlet & Games Homecoming scavenger hunt
Join the Scarlet & Games Homecoming scavenger hunt — in-person and virtual options available!

In-person activation: Ohio State's Columbus campus
Virtual activation: Anywhere in the world!
Program description
In celebration of this year’s Homecoming, The Ohio State University Alumni Association is thrilled to announce two new Scarlet & Games scavenger hunts to help relive the nostalgia of time on the Columbus campus. Participate in either trail from September 15 until October 10 to be entered to win an Ohio State-branded Yeti tumbler!
While there is only one Brutus Buckeye, did you know that over thirty life-size statues of our beloved mascot can be found on or near Ohio State’s Columbus campus? This fall, the alumni association is highlighting some of them! Both options will include a scavenger hunt to find Brutus statues throughout the campus area and learn more about the Ohio State community. Powered by Bandwango, no app download is necessary — simply register for the pass, check in at the various locations or answer questions about the Brutus statues. If you wish to register for multiple passes, you should first complete the registration for one pass and then, after clicking the confirmation link sent via email or text, navigate to the Explore section to register for the next digital pass. This project is in collaboration with Ohio Staters, Inc. (OSI), a university service organization instrumental in the creation of our university mascot.
In-person option
If you are visiting the Columbus campus in person around the football or Homecoming seasons, you can use the Bandwango program to check in when you visit the locations. Intrepid Buckeyes who check in at seven or more locations will be eligible for our prize. As a special bonus, visit the Longaberger Alumni House during business hours (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.) for a special treat while you hunt!
Virtual option
Not able to make it in person? Try out our virtual scavenger hunt option to answer questions related to each of the Brutus statues. Answering all ten questions will allow you to be eligible for the prize.
Curious about the origins of the Brutus statues?
“Brutus on Parade” was a campaign established to raise funds for the renovation of the William Oxley Thompson Memorial Library which was completed in 2009. Forty Brutus statues, each 6’2” tall and weighing 150 pounds, were decorated by local artists and sponsored by businesses and individuals for the “Brutus on Parade” campaign. Brutus was so popular that more statues were later made.
