Biography: Brigadier General John M. Dreska

Brigadier General John M. Dreska currently serves as the Director, Plans & Readiness in the HQDA G-43/5/7 Directorate. Before assuming his current position, he served as the Deputy Commanding General of the 377th Theater Sustainment Command (TSC) headquartered in New Orleans, LA. BG Dreska was responsible for theater sustainment operations and the oversight of manning, equipping, and training of six subordinate one-star Army Reserve Commands and 32,000 Soldiers.
Prior to assignment at the TSC, BG Dreska served as the Commanding General of the 311th Expeditionary Sustainment Command (ESC) from April 2021 through July 2023 in Los Angeles, CA. He also served as the Director of the CounterISIS Train & Equip Fund in Kuwait from May 2020 through January 2021, and as the Deputy Commander of the 311th ESC from May 2018 through April 2020. Before arriving to the ESC, he served as the Commander of the 1st Brigade (QM), 94th Training Division from May 2016 through May 2018 where he commanded five subordinate Quartermaster Battalions in five states. From 2013-2016, he served as the Officer in Charge of Reserve Soldiers at the Tank Automotive and Armaments Life Cycle Management Command in Detroit, MI.
In 2009, BG Dreska served in Afghanistan as a DOD civilian working as the DLA Director’s lead Class IX Planner for the President’s surge. Prior in 2008, he served with Multi-National Forces Iraq (MNF-I) as a Brigade level Operations Officer and Executive Officer. He also commanded a logistics support team (Battalion equivalent) under Combined Joint Task Force-76 (CJTF-76) in Afghanistan from 2005-06. In 1993, he deployed the 79th QM Detachment (GRREG) (101st Airborne Division) to Somalia, there he served as the Search & Recovery Platoon Leader in support of the United Nations Logistics Support Command and Task Force Ranger. BG Dreska has also served in Acquisition Logistics assignments as a Deputy Joint Team Leader, Army Team Leader, Senior Project Manager, Project Manager, and a Deputy Joint Weapon Systems Integrator. Additionally, he served as a Battalion Adjutant (S1), Battalion Supply Officer (S4), Class II, IV, & VII Supply Support Platoon Leader, Division Petroleum Platoon Leader, and Class I (Subsistence) & Water Platoon Leader.
BG Dreska holds an MSA (General Administration) from Central Michigan University (1999) and a Master’s Certificate in Government Contracting from George Washington University (2001). Additionally, he is a Level II Joint Qualified Officer, and his military education includes the Quartermaster Officer Basic & Advanced Courses, U.S. Army Combined Arms and Services Staff School, the U.S. Army Command & General Staff College, the U.S. Army War College (Master’s in Strategic Studies), and the Joint & Combined Warfighting School at the Joint Forces Staff College (Joint Professional Military Education II).
BG Dreska received several honors throughout his career including the Legion of Merit with bronze oak leaf cluster, the Bronze Star Medal, three Defense Meritorious Service Medals, and three Army Meritorious Service Medals. In 2008, Defense Logistics selected him as DOD’s Logistician of the Year. He was also named as a Distinguished Member of the Quartermaster Corps in 2018 and was inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame by Ohio Governor Michael Dewine in 2019. Additionally, BG Dreska was awarded the Order of Saint Martin and the Order of Samuel Sharpe for his commitment to Supply and Maintenance.
